Chocolate Creations Contest Rules and Regulations
1. Desserts must use chocolate in any way including, chocolate chips, chocolate icing, white chocolate, etc.
2. You may not substitute imitation chocolate, such as carob.
3. Frozen desserts are not allowed as there is no freezer space.
4. Chocolate beverages are not allowed in any category.
5. Chocolate desserts must fall under one of the eight categories: Incredible Cakes, Brownies & Bars, Cookies, Candy, Morning Chocolate, Girl Scout Cookie Creations, Professionals, Cooking by Kids (Children under 12).
6. Children under the age of 12 may compete in the Cooking by Kids category or enter another category.
7. Restaurants and professional chefs or caterers must compete in the Professional category.
8. To participate in the Girl Scout Cookie Creations category all recipes must include Girl Scout Cookies and chocolate. To purchase cookies, bring a copy of the Chocolate Creations Contest Registration Form to Girl Scouts at 5596 E State Rd 46 in Bloomington. Each box is $3 with a 5 box limit. 9. Options will photograph all chocolate creations entered into the contest. You will be able to purchase a photo of your dessert after the event by visiting www.photosolutions.com.
10. You are responsible for preparing your own chocolate creation and bringing it to the Convention Center between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2008. There is no on-site preparation.
11. Options requires the use of disposable dishes and is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Note that we will no longer be able to return dishes to their owners and disposable dishes will not count against you when judging the display of your dessert.
12. Each contestant must prepare a double batch for each dessert category. For Cakes this includes two 8 inch, 9 inch, or sheet cake sizes.
13. Each contestant must bring with them the written recipe for their entry and give Options permission to reprint the recipe in a Chocolate Fest Cookbook or weekofchocolate.com website.
First, Second, and Third Place Prizes will be judged in each category on the following criteria:
Good flavoring and chocolate taste
The creative use of chocolate
Texture & consistency (depending on the category and type of dessert)
The aroma
How the dessert is displayed
The decision of the judges shall be final.
There is NO registration fee.
